How did it all start ?

We started from the observation that students are bored in museums and do not take advantage of this opportunity. It was therefore necessary to reinvent the experience that students have in museums but especially that of teachers too; giving lessons to students who are not interested ends up boring us too. That's why we thought of an application that would reinvent the experience of teachers in museums. For this reason, it is quite naturally that we thought of sound design because among us, we have Jovan who is passionate about it.

Key steps of our application design

;

Exploration

The exploration part is a method that allowed us to get an overview of this complex subject and todevelop a critical thinking. Here is an example of a mindmap made during the exploration part.

Prototype

Once the exploration was finished, we had to agree on the basis of our project; our target, the context, the way we wanted to use sound design, and the service we want to offer. We then had our identity and the first steps in the design of the application

Here is what came up during the conception of our application:

Context

when? where? who? why?

Our project is mainly aimed at enhancing the museum visit experience for teachers by providing a better teaching and learning environment for teachers and students. We target museums all over the world, of all kind. As we all know, a museum by itself is very encompassing,teachers find it difficult to maintain a healthy and an enthusiastic environment throughtout the visit. During the visit, the students often lose their concentration and end up losing their interest for the visit. To make it more enhacing for the teacher and to keep the students engaged throughout their time in the museums, we offer a special personalised track to students based on sound design,allowing them to carry out their own way of exploring the museum,being supervised by the teacher.

The teacher will also have information about each student and their location in the museum,also able to talk to them and guide them about the various artifacts.Our product mainly focuses on making the musuem visit experience less monotonous for the children and also enable the teacher to better deliver lessons through the visit. Nevertheless, since we need to make students equally interested in other areas as well, our museum tour is designed in such a way that by the end of the visit, each student has accessed all the parts of the museum

Target

for whom?

Our goal is to help teachers better utilise the museum visit to impart knowledge transfer to children through interactive methods. Traditional ways are often boring for both students and teachers,subsequently losing interest and hence hindering the main objectives of a museum visit. We intend to provide a solution for both teachers and students. Our product is available to teachers and students with teachers having some additional access to information about every student.Our product is completely technology driven and hence does not require any special hardware for access,thus making it simpler for implementation. Another target group could be the museum administration and its visitors,so that museum visits can be more interesting and the administration can keep track of the visits and make some improvements.

Service offered

what? how?

The Perfect Guide is an Android and iOS application that enhances museum visits.Teachers and students can download the appication and enter the name of the museum they are visiting and the teacher additionally enters the details of his/her name and the number of students.The teacher will be able to play different sounds played based on the artifacts in the museum. For example, there might be sounds of war denoting the war ruins in the museum, sounds of ancient civilisation,sounds of dinosaurs,voices of painters,etc. All of these sounds stem from sound design artists. As we can not really reproduce a dinosaur voice or a bombing scene, sound design will help us to create thousands of different voices and sounces for the app. Each student has to choose their favourite theme based on the audio played. The teacher will then get the results of the choices of the students. The students are made into groups based on their selection,forming their respective groups. The teacher then directs the individual groups in their respective paths based on the option they chose. Throughout the tour, students will be guided by innovative sound designs associated with the artifacts through their headphones.The teacher will be able to locate the groups through GPS and also provide them narratives. The students can also interact with the teacher at any point during the tour through the app thanks to a chatting service. He/she can ask questions to the teacher or report any emergency. Finally, the tour also makes every student visit every place in the museum,making it a wholesome experience for the students. At the end of the visit, the teacher will have access to a plethora of information such as the path followed by each group, time spent by the groups at each point,their ratings of each artifact,questions asked by the students,etc.

The application for the teacher will initially have the results page of the survey, with the graphs of the responses by the students. The application then groups the students automatically with their usernames. Each group page will have information about the group members like location, audio being played and time spent by the each member. There will also be a pause option available to both teacher and the student allowing to provide narratives and ask questions respectively.

Identity

describe the universe around your service by creating a mood board and name your service accordingly

Benchmark

List concurrents / relative projects and describe how they relate/differentiate to your project

We have to admit, our first wireframe was very basic and very far from what we expected to have, have a look on it: 1st wireframe ;

Tests

Obviously, this wireframe was not enough and we had to develop a mockup and propose it to people who are part of our target (teachers, students). These test of which you can find the most interesting below, have resulted in this final mockup

Thanks to these tests, we came up with this final mockup:
A microphone
A phone
A drone
Soundbox
A tablet
A camera
A typewriter
A tableturner
